bagged milk and champagne before noon

Ahh yes, today at work we quite casually had some champagne a little before noon celebrating two women's departure from working at Hospice. Tis the Moldovan way perhaps.
Also the milk here comes in bags which absolutely freaks me out. Also it is the custom to have your morning cereal with warmed (bagged) milk. A little strange at first, but I don't hate it.
Also update: A pack of cigarettes are only 10 lei... approximately 55 cents!

So I'll keep today's post short because, well we are leaving to go out soon. This weekend should be fun, Francesca has "explained" that she has some adventures in Chisinau for us, and I have a work barbecue too --- i'm a real professional now, with work functions and everything.

Lunch at the Cantina, literally two dollars tops. Yesterday we ordered pizza at the office, each pie coasting roughly $3.70. It really is insane here, everything is so cheep, the beer only a little more than a dollar. I'm going to come back a fat American.

Francesca! The saint herself poses with me for a photo on the porch after an hour of our Romanian-English "lessons"

The view off the back porch after a rain storm. Chisinau can be rather quaint away from the mini-buses honking and wild dogs barking.
